Indian Broadband
Broadband in India has been something of a myth for many a year. It has only been in the last few months that a few steps have been seemingly taken in the right direction. Thanks to a "recommendation" from the TRAI, ISPs in India have been coaxed into providing atleast a semblance of a broadband connection at non-astronomical rates.
Nevertheless, a number of ISPs in India still continue to market 64 Kbps & 128 Kbps connections under the Broadband moniker. Similarly, connections which are certified "true broadband" [256 Kbps or higher], seldom perform to expected standards and are frequently also subjected to other restrictions such as a low data caps, time-based usage caps, port blocking, traffic shaping and so on. ISPs in India frequently do not advertise upload speeds on their packages as they usually do no meet recommended broadband norms. Operating system compatibility, usually related to lack of compatible drivers for the provided modem, is another important criterion that is often neglected by the ISPs in question.
What is attempted here is a concise representation of the quality of ISPs in India that provide viable Broadband/Always-On connections, with information on plans available and other criteria which will hopefully provide enough material for users to make informed decisions on their choice of Internet connection.
